This movie includes an abundance of shots with a hand-held camera in order to create a shaky moving shot that helps to show that things that are happening in the plot are uneasy and helps develop a mysterious mood that scares audience and keeps them on edge for the entire movie. The shots that follow Danny as he rides on his big wheel also help create an uneasy and mysterious mood as the camera is at Danny's level and is behind him which prevents us from seeing what is around the corner. This uncertainty of Danny's fate as he rides his big wheel keeps the audience on edge and helps create a suspenseful mood that makes The Shining such a great film. Often times in the movie, the director will quickly cut between multiple events that are going on. When Jack enters room 237, there are several quick cuts between Jack and Danny and there are many shots and images that the audience haven't seen before. This is a great trick that creates an uncertain and uncomfortable feeling in the audience and builds suspense and frightens the audience. Overall, The Shining isn't the average cliché horror film as the movie has incredible suspense unlike any other movie. This suspense creates discomfort in the audience and makes The Shining one of the best horror movies of all time.
